Activities during 2017-2018

Report of activities of Physics department during 2017-2018
Summer Internship Programme
Arranged an internship programme of six weeks duration from April 15th 2015 to May 31st 2015 at Efftronics Systems Pvt.Ltd, Vijayawada and sent two students Ms.K.Bhagya Rekha (III MPCS), Ms.Sravya (III MPC).
Faculty Industrial training programme
Dr.G.Little Flower (Physics), Miss.T.Bhagya Lakshmi(Physics) and Mrs.Niraja (Electronics) underwent Faculty Industrial training programme from 15th May, 2017 to 6th June, 2017 at Efftronics Systems Pvt Ltd. and got traninned in “Number systems & Conversions, basic programming in C language, Embedded C,Practice on ARM Controller”.
Activity of ‘Inspire Club’ on 04.07.2017
The departments of Physics and Electronics organized a guest lecture on “Internet of Things and future career possibilities” as an activity of ‘Inspire Club’ on 04.07.2017 at auditorium between 10 a.m and 12 noon. I, II and III B.Sc Physics and Electronics students participated in it. Mr.S Bhavani Shankar, Executive manager, R&D department of the Efftronics Systems Pvt., Ltd., addressed the students.
In his address he explained about the latest technology “Internet of Things (IOT) which is connecting various things using internet and sensors. He described how IOT has disrupted many fields and help things to become autonomous and smart so as to self-propel, self-drive and self-maintain without human intervention. IOT is working towards a world where physical objects contain embedded technology that can Sense, Communicate, Act and Interact. This brings in the need for new skills and capabilities such as Algorithms, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, UX, Data Science and so on. He suggested that the teaching and training methods need to get updated to suit the skills in demand.
The government and industries are very curiously looking at it after knowing the unlimited possibilities with this technology. The Central government’s initiatives like smart cities, Digital India are going to depend on a part of this technology. The technology is going to bring revolutionary changes in the aviation, automobile, telecom, health and medicine, transport, agriculture and media fields. He advised the students to learn about this latest technology, which is going to be the promise of the future and will influence the future careers.” IOT brings in a great demand for Algorithm building skills along with the need to be multi-disciplinary. Three hundred students got enlightened by his talk.

A Workshop on "HAM RADIO"

An educational tour to Sriharikota on 17.08.2017

The department of Physics, Maris Stella College had arranged an educational tour to Sriharikota Higher Altitude Range (SHAR), Andhra Pradesh on 17.08.2017.  After series of security checks, we were taken to Mission Control Centre (MCC) where the entire launching process from preliminary checks on operational systems onboard to the countdown and tracking of the rocket till it places the satellite in orbit is monitored. This huge room thus brought a revered hush to the excited students. Then we visited the first Launch Pad FLP, called IOP – Integration on pad facilitates where the vertical integration of the stages of the PSLV and GSLV are assembled, the Second Launch pad (SLP) and Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) which then moved in vertical position to the Launch Pad, working platforms that provide access to the vehicle at various levels and Mobile Service Tower (MST) that acts as a shelter to the vehicle and personnel during integration. This educational tour provided additional knowledge to what students had studied in the course “Mechanics and properties of Matter” during I semester about variable mass systems, multistage rocket launching techniques, types of fuels enclosed in various stages of rockets, the need of heat sink coverage of the rocket, tracking techniques of launched rockets using RADARS. Students learnt about job opportunities in Indian space programme at Sriharikota.
